President Donald Trump included a former U.S. Supreme Court clerk and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan partner from Houston among his latest batch of judicial nominees Friday, a move that could further cement the flip in control from Democratic appointed judges to Republican.

Charles Eskridge III was nominated for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Eskridge focuses on complex commercial litigation at Quinn Emanuel in Houston, and earned his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law. He clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Byron White during the 1991-1992 term. One of his fellow clerks that year was David Frederick of Washington’s Kellogg, Hansen, Todd, Figel & Frederick. Eskridge also clerked for Judge Charles Clark of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
