Houston lawyer Robert S. Bennett, who was disbarred for two years, avoided a similar fate Wednesday when a judge gave the trial lawyer six months of probated suspension for violating a Texas disciplinary rule.

Following a sanction hearing today at which he represented himself, Bennett, of Bob Bennett & Associates, said he is disappointed that specially appointed Judge Craig Smith of the 192nd District in Dallas chose to impose a sanction against him. But he was pleased the punishment was not harsher.
