Man recovers $100,815 for fall from railing

On Oct. 23, a tenant who claimed head and neck injuries in a fall due to an alleged loose railing was awarded $100,815. Lawrence Austin Brown leaned against a railing outside of his apartment building at the Summit of Thousand Oaks, located at 1550 Thousand Oaks, in San Antonio. Brown alleged that he smelled something burning from his apartment so he went down to the stairwell landing between the first and second floor to determine the cause of the smoke. As he leaned against a rail, the railing broke, which caused him to fall headfirst to the concrete surface below. An inspection was done, which indicated that the building’s stairwell railings were loose and needed repair, he claimed.
