Plaintiff awarded $198,119 for alleged injuries in rear-ender

On July 24, a jury awarded $198,119 to a woman who claimed lumbar injuries in a collision. Bernice King was traveling on the access road of Highway 1604 in San Antonio. She stopped to yield to traffic exiting the highway and was rear-ended by Jorge D. Estrada. King claimed that the accident caused, at L2-3, a 4.0-millimeter left subarticular disk protrusion flattening the thecal sac and abutting the left L3 nerve root sleeve; at L3-4, a 3.0-millimeter subligamentous disk protrusion with a radial tear in the outer annulus indenting the thecal sac; and at L4-5, a 4.0-millimeter broad-based subligamentous disk protrusion indenting the thecal sac. King was 30 at the time of the 2010 collision.
