Barry Smitherman, the former chairman of the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) and the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), joined Vinson & Elkins in Austin as a partner on April 1.
Smitherman said he will work in the firm’s energy regulatory practice, including matters before the PUCT and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, but also support the firm’s corporate, private equity and energy litigation practices. He said he has also registered with the Texas Ethics Commission as a lobbyist.
