Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Presiding Judge Sharon Keller, a frequent target of anti-death penalty advocates’ ire, remains a jurist unafraid of distinguishing herself when she believes lethal injection by the state is merited.

The majority of the CCA ruled on Feb. 25 that Linda Carty, a woman convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 2002, should have her case sent back to the trial court for review on the basis of newly discovered evidence that the state used false testimony and suppressed exculpatory evidence.
