The slogan “Bump the Competition” is not necessarily an antitrust violation, according to a Jan. 27 ruling by U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, affirming a district court ruling in favor of General Motors Co. and an advertising agency.

An aftermarket dealer of auto parts had filed an antitrust claim against the automaker and an advertising agency, alleging that when they launched a campaign called “Bump the Competition,” and reduced the price of its parts at the dealer level by almost 50 percent, it violated antitrust laws.
