Jones Day attorneys in Atlanta and New York have won a stay of execution on a $37.5 million verdict against R.J. Reynolds in a suit by the family of a Florida woman who died of lung cancer.

Attorneys Jason T. Burnette in Atlanta and Charles R.A. Morse in New York secured the stay before Florida’s Fourth District Court of Appeal. The court ruled that the lower tribunal erred in allowing the plaintiff to collect millions from the tobacco company’s bank accounts.
