The chairman of the New Jersey Assembly Judiciary Committee said May 1 that he will attempt to force the state Department of Environmental Protection to release background documents relating to the controversial decision by the administration of Republican Gov. Chris Christie to settle environmental litigation with Exxon Mobil Corp. for $225 million.

The proposed $225 million settlement figure represents the damages caused at the company’s refinery facilities in Bayonne and Linden, as well as at all of its service stations and 16 other facilities in the state.
