A putative class action suit filed in federal court in Newark accuses four manufacturers and a distributor of disposable contact lenses of conspiring to eliminate price competition by entering into illegal resale price maintenance agreements with retailers.

The manufacturers—Novartis Corp., Johnson & Johnson, Bausch & Lomb and CooperVision Inc.—entered into agreements with stores in which they threatened to cut off product supplies if retail prices were not maintained above mandated levels, the suit claims. The distributor, ABB/Concise Optical Group, orchestrated such agreements between manufacturers and retailers in order to increase the retail price of lenses, the suit alleges.
