Touro Law Center‘s dean has announced that he will step down next June. Lawrence Raful, who has been dean at the Central Islip school since 2004, said he is stepping down to do more teaching and spend more time with his family. “I’ve been very fortunate here and very supported by the university and administration,” he said in an interview. A search committee will be formed to find a replacement. No one has yet been tapped to lead the committee though Mr. Raful said he expected its work would begin around Labor Day.

Mr. Raful, 60, already teaches a course on legal ethics. In a letter to Touro College President Alan Kadish, he said he looked forward to teaching full time. Mr. Raful said he also hopes to conduct more programs for attorneys and law firms on the implications of the Rules of Professional Conduct, which were adopted in 2009. “The State of New York changed its ethics rules recently, and because of my work in Nebraska in chairing the committee that made the same change a few years ago, I am one of the few law faculty in the state with experience with this transition,” Mr. Raful wrote in his letter to Mr. Kadish.
