The state Court of Appeals has approved a requirement for applicants to the New York bar to have completed an experiential learning component before they can be admitted into practice.

To meet the requirement, which will apply to U.S. students who enter law school after Aug. 1, 2016, and to foreign-educated students who enter law school after Aug. 1, 2018, applicants may choose from five different “pathways” to show they are fit to practice.
