The brawl over deflated footballs and the power of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to suspend New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady will roll Wednesday into the courtroom of Southern District Judge Richard Berman, who continues to press for a quick settlement.

Berman, presiding over a dispute marked by allegations of intrigue, conspiracy and outright lying, is asked by the NFL to affirm the total authority of Goodell to act as an arbitrator and review the discipline of players under the league’s collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association.
