Weitz & Luxenberg said Wednesday it has asked Sheldon Silver, the New York State Assembly speaker who faces federal corruption charges, to take a leave of absence from his of counsel position at the firm.

Last week, Southern District U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara unsealed a five-count criminal complaint accusing Silver of using his office to enrich himself by at least $6 million from Weitz & Luxenberg, a personal injury firm, and the two-person tax firm of Goldberg & Iryami without performing any work save for legislative favors.
