To say that President Trump’s three recent immigration-related executive orders have generated controversy is an understatement. In those orders, he, among other things, ordered commencement of the extension of the U.S./Mexico border “wall,” expanded removal operations in the interior of the country, and threatened “sanctuary cities” with a loss of federal funding.

On Jan. 27, the third executive order suspended the issuance of visas to noncitizens from seven predominately Muslim nations and halted all refugee admissions for four months. Nothing less than a global firestorm erupted, with many lawsuits filed, protests at airports around the U.S. and denunciations coming from world leaders.
