District of Columbia Superior Court judges Todd Edelman and Florence Pan, both Obama appointees to the city’s local trial court, were nominated on Thursday to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Edelman and Pan’s nominations buck Obama’s recent trend of appointing lawyers from private law firms to the federal court in Washington. Edelman was a law professor before becoming a judge; Pan spent the bulk of her career as a federal prosecutor.
