Detroit spend: How much has it cost for Jones Day partner David Heiman to trek from Florida to Michigan to work on Detroit’s municipal bankruptcy? $34,000, according to the Detroit News. The newspaper found that Heiman, Corinne Ball and Bruce Bennett have been billing at an $1,075 hourly rate, and that Jones Day has charged the city, its client, $52.3 million in total.

Eric Garner: The U.S. Department of Justice will inquire into whether Eric Garner’s death at the hands of a white police officer on Staten Island violated civil rights law, NLJ’s Zoe Tillman reported. Loretta Lynch, the president’s pick to replace AG Eric Holder Jr., is leading the investigation team. The announcement came after a grand jury chose not to indict the police officer. In D.C., protesters responding to the grand jury decision shut down Dupont Circle Wednesday night.
