Health care industry lawyers have a role to play as the threat of the Ebola virus bears down on the United States, with one confirmed case in Dallas and a possible case in Washington as of Friday afternoon.

Melissa Markey, a Michigan-based attorney at midsized health care law firm Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, said she’s working with clients nationally to prepare for an Ebola-related emergency. Markey counsels hospitals on federal privacy laws and emergency preparedness. She also works during winters as a paramedic at a ski resort.
