The Senate confirmed two judges to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Monday, including a former top lawyer at the Federal Bureau of Investigation who was once ensnared in a surveillance controversy on Capitol Hill.

In the first action since return from the August recess, the Senate voted 73-24 to approve the nomination of former FBI general counsel Valerie Caproni to the federal district court.
