NEW YORK — A federal judge in San Francisco has rejected a motion for acquittal or a new trial by AU Optronics Corp., which was convicted in March of participating in a worldwide conspiracy to fix liquid crystal display prices.

The company argued that prosecutors failed to show that its misconduct had a direct effect on domestic commerce. The fact that its customers later put the panels into electronic devices shipped into the United States was not enough, they argued.
