From music publishers to Kung Fu Panda‘s studio, Loeb & Loeb’s 56-attorney IP practice spent 2011 in a familiar role — handling transactions and disputes throughout the entertainment industry for individuals and major corporations. But it also logged a significant life sciences ruling at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

The firm went up against YouTube and secured a settlement last August for the National Music Publishers’ Association and the Harry Fox Agency — the largest mechanical licensing, collection and distribution agency for music publishers — in a 2007 copyright infringement suit that will now allow publishers to elect to receive royalties for musical works on the site going forward.
