New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman sued Sprint Nextel Corp. on April 19, alleging that it undercollected and underpaid millions of dollars in state and local sales taxes. He claimed the company owes more than $100 million in taxes on flat-rate access charges for wireless calling plans.

LENDING BIAS TARGETED

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has put businesses on notice that the agency “will use all available legal avenues” to crack down on discriminatory lending. The bureau on April 18 stressed its commitment to recognizing the disparate-impact doctrine — that is, when a practice is facially neutral but has discriminatory effects.
