Born in Uruguay, Williams & Connolly partner Ana Reyes has crafted an international litigation practice during the past 10 years that lets her apply her global perspective to her case work. Reyes, 37, has become something of a regular before the International Chamber of Commerce, recently serving as the lead negotiator in a dispute between the Republic of Uruguay, along with the Central Bank of Uruguay, and three international banks over the liquidation of a Uruguayan financial institution. Reyes’ family emigrated to the United States from Uruguay when she was in grade school, so she said it was “particularly meaningful” to travel back to Uruguay to represent the government there in reaching a settlement.
Also before the chamber, Reyes has been representing Symbion Power LLC, a subcontractor, in arbitration with a main contractor in a $120 million dispute over the construction of a power plant in Kabul, Afghanistan. Reyes has also had success in U.S. courts, recently convincing the 11th Circuit to order the dismissal of a lawsuit against former Bolivian president Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada for his handling of riots while in office.
