Charles Manatt, founder and co-chairman of Los Angeles-based Manatt, Phelps & Phillips and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, is recovering after having suffered from a stroke, according to the firm.

“Ambassador Charles T. Manatt continues to recover from a stroke he suffered following successful heart surgery. He is being treated at a Washington, D.C. area hospital,” Manatt’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner William Quicksilver, said in a prepared statement released on Friday. “Mr. Manatt’s condition is steadily improving, and his medical team believes that the outlook for his recovery is very good. He is undertaking physical therapy to facilitate his rehabilitation and return to his professional and family life.”
