Pactiv Corp. makes and sells consumer products including Hefty waste bags, food-storage bags and disposable tableware and cookware. It provides foam, plastic, aluminum, paperboard and fiber packaging to the food service, supermarket and restaurant markets. Pactiv was incorporated in 1965 as Packaging Corp. of America. Formerly a subsidiary of Tenneco Inc., it has been an independent company since 1999. It reported revenues of $3.4 billion in 2009, securing the No. 604 spot on the Fortune 1,000. Some 20% of sales are to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Its headquarters is in Lake Forest, Ill., and it has an estimated 12,000 employees. Most facilities are located in North America, with some operations in Mexico, Germany and China.
