Its holdings include players in the legal and risk-management (LexisNexis), science (Elsevier) and medical (Elsevier and Business Reed) sectors. The company had combined revenue of $9.5 billion in 2009, $5.3 billion of it earned in North America. The company employs 32,000 worldwide, with 17,000 in the United States. North American operations are headquartered in New York.
