Founded in 1969, Houston-based Sysco Corp. distributes food and supplies to restaurants, schools, hotels and hospitals throughout the United States. The company also provides customers in the hospitality industry with kitchen equipment and other goods. Sysco has about 47,000 employees and 186 distribution sites. Its 2009 sales topped $36 billion. Last year, Sysco expanded beyond North America into Ireland.
