The presiding judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court recently warned hundreds of litigators at the Los Angeles County Bar Association that the court would lay off more than 300 people in March.

The court, which employs more than 5,500 people, faces a $79 million deficit this year — a budgetary hole that administrators expect to deepen to $130 million, Presiding Judge Charles “Tim” McCoy said.
