With the federal minimum wage increasing to $7.25 per hour on Friday, a movement to give tipped employees a pay raise is gaining momentum. Employee-rights advocates note that the minimum wage for tipped employees — including waitresses, hotel workers, nail salon staff and carwash attendants — has been frozen at $2.13 an hour since 1991. But efforts are under way to more than double that wage.
