Last year was rough for many Washington firms, but Howrey wasn’t one of them.

The firm jumped six spots to No. 8 on this year’s D.C. 25, a list of the top-grossing Washington law firms. The firm was fueled by a 28.8% increase in gross revenue that brought the 2008 number to $264 million. The firm posted the largest percentage increases in gross revenue, profits per partner and revenue per lawyer on the list. Double-digit increases in both profits per partner (to $1.3 million) and revenue per lawyer (to $964,000) now have Howrey closing in on the top five. The firm’s Washington office, its largest, outperformed the rest of the firm. According to this year’s Am Law 100, Howrey’s firmwide gross revenue increased by 20.6%.
