Lawyers for embattled Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick have proposed a deal with prosecutors in which the mayor would serve no jail time, but he would resign, plead guilty to two felonies, and lose his law license, among other penalties. But prosecutors want any deal to include 30 to 90 days in jail. Kilpatrick faces eight charges related to covering up an affair during a police whistleblower trial.
