Harrison will focus on civil litigation with emphasis in the defense of professional liability involving health care professionals, lawyers, accountants and brokers. Harrison served as the Pacific regional director for the Defense Research Institute, representing California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii.
DLA Piper: Ben Olivas joins the firm’s tax practice group as partner in the East Palo Alto, Calif., office. Olivas will specialize in international tax. Previously, he worked in the international tax group at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal: Jeffrey A. Baumel joins the firm’s venture technology group as partner in the Short Hills, N.J., office. Baumel will focus on representing emerging-growth life sciences companies. Previously, Jeffrey Baumel was chairman of the life sciences practice at McCarter & English of Newark, N.J.
