A U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing descended into chaos and yelling Wednesday as Republican senators lambasted a New York federal trial court pick over her recommendation to allow a prison transfer for a transgender inmate to a women’s detention facility.

GOP lawmakers throughout the hearing directed intense questioning at current U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn over the recommendation. The inmate, who had a criminal history of sexual assault, was serving time for distributing child pornography and the Bureau of Prisons opposed the transfer, the senators said.
