The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lacks “genuine engagement” with the public in its rulemaking process and does not assist industry on regulatory issues, Republican SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce said Tuesday.

The SEC is proposing broad rules, giving unreasonably short comment periods and often replacing substantial elements from proposed regulations without providing a proper public comment period, Peirce added at the “SEC Speaks in 2024″ event hosted by the Practising Law Institute.
