The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Friday finalized stringent greenhouse gas emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles such as freight trucks and buses.

The EPA said its “Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles – Phase 3” will avoid one billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The tighter standards would also provide $13 billion in annualized net benefits towards public health, the climate and savings for truck owners and operators, the agency added.
