The constitutional right to keep and bear arms does not prohibit Congress from disarming people deemed to be a domestic-violence threat, the Biden administration stated late Monday in papers urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court decision that struck down the federal law intended to protect victims.

U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar pressed the administration’s argument as the justices prepare to hear the government’s appeal during their 2023-24 term, which begins Oct. 2. The high court is expected to render its decision in United States v. Rahimi by the end of June.
