A federal appeals court on Monday heard arguments for the third time over a congressional subpoena for former President Donald Trump’s personal financial records from his accountant, the latest stop for the case as it’s traveled through the courts.

The panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit asked attorneys for the House and Trump how they should consider the subpoena to Mazars now that Trump is no longer in office. It’s the first time the appeals court will issue a ruling on the merits of the case after the U.S. Supreme Court in 2020 crafted a test for congressional subpoenas seeking sitting presidents’ personal papers.
