A federal judge in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday rejected an effort by the conservative group Heritage Action for America to avoid a deposition in a lawsuit challenging a recently passed Florida law restricting access for voters in the state.

Attorneys for Heritage Action, the lobbying arm of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, went to court in Washington, D.C., last week after first trying to quash the subpoena in another federal court in Florida. U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden of the District of Columbia said at a brief telephonic hearing Tuesday that he would largely deny the motion to quash, finding the Heritage Action lawyer’s technical arguments about the virtual deposition failed.
