The Senate confirmed U.S. District Judge Gustavo Gelpí to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit Monday, making him the second-ever Hispanic judge to sit on the Boston-based appeals court.

President Joe Biden nominated Gelpí in May to fill a vacancy created by Judge Juan Torruella’s death last year. He is the sixth federal appellate nominee confirmed since Biden took office.
