Covington & Burling is the latest to pick up a former federal government official, as the firm welcomes partner Andrew Smith back into the fold. Smith had spent the previous three years as the bureau director for Consumer Protection at the Federal Trade Commission, and prior to that he was a partner and co-chair of Covington’s financial services group.

Smith will rejoin as partner in the firm’s advertising and consumer protection, data privacy and cybersecurity and financial services practices. He will work out of Washington, D.C.
