Big Law political action committees are mostly forgoing the presidential race for now in favor of donating millions to congressional campaigns, often to the benefit of Republican incumbents, an ALM analysis of Federal Election Committee data has found.

Big Law PACs have raised $7.8 million and doled out at least $6.4 million to more than 1,200 different candidates and committees since January 2019, the beginning of the current donation cycle, through June 2020. The dollars raised and spent show that law firms are becoming increasingly active in the 2020 race while leveraging donations to bolster their own lobbying practices.
