Uber Technologies Inc. has agreed to pay $1.8 million to settle class claims over fees the company charged for rides to and from California airports. The proposed $1.8 million settlement, filed on Nov. 20, would reimburse riders for all “airport fee tolls” Uber collected in 2013 and 2014, according to plaintiffs lawyers. Riders were charged between $1.25 and $4.50 per trip. The lawyers estimated there are more than 350,000 riders in the class, many of whom took multiple airport trips.

MUG SHOTS GET SECOND LOOK

The full U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, siding with the U.S. Justice Department, will take a fresh look at whether the public has a right to access mug shots. The en banc court on Nov. 20 vacated a panel decision that sided with the Detroit Free-Press. The panel said it had no power to overturn an earlier decision that said mug shots are not exempt from the Freedom of Information Act. The Justice Department, citing privacy concerns and a conflict among circuits, urged the full court to take the case.
