Touro College and University System claims to be the nation’s largest nonprofit, independent institution of higher and professional education under Jewish auspices.

Chartered in 1970, Touro has about 18,000 students at 29 locations, in California, Nevada, New York, Berlin, Jerusalem, Moscow and Paris. Touro offers degrees in medicine, law, business, education, social work, health sciences and Jewish studies. The system has five medical schools, including New York Medical College. Based in New York City, the system has a budget of about $467 million and roughly 5,000 employees. Michael Newman is general counsel.
