Big Law wasn’t right for outgoing U.S. House Armed Services Committee Chairman Howard “Buck” McKeon. The California Republican, a sought-after expert on the defense industry, turned down an opportunity at McDermott Will & Emery last month.

I understand that’s how law firms work,” McKeon told the NLJ about his talks with the firm. “You have to look what you’re comfortable with. I’m not comfortable with somebody looking over my shoulder and having to report my time in six-minute segments with billable hours.”
