Former Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell will be sentenced Tuesday in Richmond federal district court on public corruption charges. His lawyers at Jones Day and Holland & Knight filed hundreds of pages of letters in support of leniency or generally about his character.

Here’s a look at a handful of letters—from lawyers—written to U.S. District Judge James Spencer in support of McDonnell. The former governor, convicted at trial, is a graduate of Regent University School of Law who later practiced at Virginia Beach, Va.-based Huff, Poole & Mahoney.
