Big Brothers Big Sisters was in big trouble.

An audit by the U.S. Justice Department inspector general in 2013 found that the nonprofit corporation failed to properly account for $19 million in grants. The government froze its funding, the Philadelphia U.S. Attorney’s Office began digging into false claims charges and the charity for at-risk youth faced potential ruin.
