Meet U.S. District Senior Judge Thomas Zilly of the Western District of Washington, who was appointed to the federal bench by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. He assumed senior status in 2004. In the Seattle courthouse where Zilly typically sits, senior status connotes “cutting edge.” He and his colleague Senior Judge Marsha Pechman have been taking on leading roles in getting the district’s civil trial docket moving with Zoom jury trials, with both handling one last month.
