The words “quick response” are not typically used to describe the legal technology community, but a group of attorneys and technologists in Scotland managed to organize a hackathon on 36 hours’ notice, in which they created a mobile app to help victims of London’s disastrous Grenfell Tower fire find local emergency assistance.
The app, designed in a hackathon immediately following the fire, displays on a searchable map available resources on housing, financial assistance, counseling, legal assistance, community support and other services drawn from over 50 difference sources, and is available both on and offline on iPhone and Android devices. Hackathon participants, a group of both lawyers and developers, built the app on Pocket Leap, a content management system (CMS) created by Glasgow-based technology firm App Jam.
