According to Jenny Paul and Marc Martin on K&L Gates’ TMT Law Watch blog, a new Senate bill was recently introduced that would “bolster the growth of online video services like Netflix and Hulu” by protecting them against traditional cable companies.

The legislation, entitled the Consumer Choice in Online Video Act, was put forward by Senator Jay Rockefeller and it bars cable, satellite, broadcast and telecommunication companies from engaging in anti-competitive practices against the online video companies, say Paul and Martin. It also attempts to facilitate their abilities to offer additional programming by easing provisions that block online services and their acquisitions of video content.
