The Starbucks on the corner of 14th Street and West Peachtree sits in the heart of Midtown Atlanta’s Big Law scene, encircled by offices for big firms like Alston & Bird, Kilpatrick Stockton & Townsend, and Jones Day, among others. It’s a popular hotspot for attorneys in the area, a place to step out of the office for an informal meeting or a quick reprieve from the work grind. I sat in that Starbucks on a Thursday afternoon as people filtered in and out, chatting and jotting notes on legal pads at tables, working quietly on laptops in the corner, scrolling through emails on their smartphones.

I didn’t see a single tablet device all afternoon.
